TikTok is a short-form video platform owned by Beijing-based ByteDance that allows users to create, share, and discover videos ranging from 15 seconds to 10 minutes. Launched internationally in 2017 and later merged with Musical.ly in 2018, TikTok has grown to over 1 billion monthly active users worldwide. The platform uses an AI-driven recommendation engine to personalize each user's content feed, making it one of the most engaging social media experiences available. TikTok's engineering teams span Los Angeles, Singapore, London, Dublin, and multiple offices across Asia, working on challenges in recommendation systems, real-time video processing, content moderation at scale, e-commerce infrastructure, and search. The platform is not available in mainland China, where its counterpart Douyin operates separately.
